Rosey & Olivia Participate in 2008 4-H County Round-Up
posted on Aug 01, 2008Once again, our Brabant mare Rosey Grey and our daughter, Olivia Hunter participated in the 4-H Snyder County Round-Up held at Buffalo Valley Riding Club, Lewisburg, PA, on July 12, 2008.
Olivia said she doesn't mind being the only rider using a "draft" horse for the gaming and other classes since Rosey actually "holds her own" and does very well considering her size and stature.
They competed in four classes, earning a 4th place ribbon in Senior Showmanship, 3rd in Keyhole, 4th in Poles, and 4th in Barrels. They have really developed quite a fan club and enjoyed being cheered on by the crowd as they stirred up the dust during the gaming events.
We think it would be great to see more draft horses out there competing and showing others just how versatile and athletic they really are! Congratulations to them both!

Horses/Animals Welcome Special Visitors
posted on Jul 23, 2008On June 22, 2008, the horses and animals at Chestnut Oak Farm received a friendly visit by horse and animal enthusiasts Peggy and Jerry Shields of Mifflinburg and their friend Benita Stiver of Junction City, Kansas. Peggy of "Projects by peggy", who did a great job designing our website, said she felt like she already "knew" the horses and enjoyed taking pictures of them.
Her husband Jerry, a disabled veteran, also enjoyed being up close and personal with the animals. Our young Gypsy Horse stallion, Rosewater Cassidy stood quietly while Jerry gave him many good scratches. Foxy Hope, our two year old Shire filly, couldn't get enough of Jerry and loved nuzzling his cheek!
Benita took lots of pictures of the horses in action and especially enjoyed photographing our quirky white goat, Marshmallow.
Many thanks to Jerry, Peggy, and Benita, for taking the time to come out and visit with these truly special animals!
